for your index of delight this week...
“Art enables us to find ourselves and loose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton
In many respects I think the Pandemic and lock down uncovered a creative streak in people. Such was the case when word spread throughout Seattle about a generous homeowner who during the very strange 2020 holiday season spent countless hours transforming a concrete retaining wall along the sidewalk into a whimsical and remarkably detailed installation of the Rosebud Motel decked out for Christmas.
For anyone who hasn’t seen ‘Schitt’s Creek’, the quirky but heartfelt Netflix series, the roadside motel is central to the show’s storyline. The series begins seriously, even ridiculously absurd but grows to take up room in your heart in so many unexpected ways. We’ve watched all six seasons again and again — it never grows old. I can’t explain how utterly delightful it was to experience the installation along with (properly distanced) crowds, all of whom had a grin on their face, as I do behind my mask in this photo.
This is a wonderful season to create generous acts of whimsy that bring a grin to the faces of family, friends and strangers. It’s a gift that will last forever.

Man, I *loved* Schitt's Creek!! ❤️
Lovely reminder, bébé.
