“In the kitchen, make the world you long for.” —Tamar Adler
Also, “My favorite season is ARTICHOKE,” — Tamar Adler writing in Vogue. With baseball season underway, I have several days and evenings a week to myself when the Mariners are in town and my husband is stationed behind home plate in his happy place. One of my favorite solo meals has got to be a steamed artichoke that I do not have to share. (sorry, not sorry) This is my favorite way to prepare them, except not. I steam the choke(s) in the microwave after squeezing a lemon, adding a minced clove of garlic and baptizing the lot in Vermouth and olive oil. Cover with plastic — I know, I know, I’m still learning how to cut down on single-use plastic — and set the timer for approximately 12-15 minutes for a good sized ‘choke. What I did take away from the Smitten Kitchen post linked above is to first halve the head before steaming. Soooo much easier to remove the choke after cooking. Pick each leaf, lightly dip in curried mayo and enjoy all to yourself.
Go touch grass. Sound advice gardeners have known forever. Take good care of you and yours, outdoors, hopefully in the presence of nature (and artichokes)
