Hello!
I’m Lorene Edwards Forkner, a gardener who writes and a writer who gardens and cooks. I’m the author of several books including Color In and Out of the Garden, a memoir told in plants and color about cultivating the practice of paying attention.
Come on in, the colors are endless and the writing is true
When you subscribe to Cultivating Color you’ll receive a weekly round up of color studies and observations, typically on Fridays, as well as a brief dispatch of inspiration — my Index of Delight — at the beginning of each week. Once a month I take a broader look at life and the garden with seasonal ramblings, recent writing, book recommendations, information about upcoming classes and workshops, and special discount offers for goods in my store and online classes.
Everything on Cultivating Color is free, including all archived content organized by topic. Whether you’re looking for inspiration and practical tips or are intrigued with the idea of exploring a creative practice of your own, I’ve got you covered. Feel free to browse to your heart’s content.
Writing is my joy and my job — paid subscribers help make this questionable life choice possible.
Subscribers will be notified of new posts and can even get them delivered via email. Writing is my joy and my job — paid subscribers help make this questionable life choice possible. As a way to say thank you for supporting my work, four times a year — winter, spring, summer, and fall, paid subscribers are invited to request a complimentary Color Collection.
Everyone, free or otherwise, has my eternal gratitude.
Substack is a quiet (ad-free!!) space where I’m free to explore, experiment, and discover others who challenge me, head and heart. I’ve connected with so many brilliant writers and creators and I promise to share my discoveries. And I cherish the community that’s grown around my words and colors.
