for your index of delight this week...
Whatever you have to say to say, leave
The roots on, let them
Dangle
And the dirt
Just to make clear
Where they come from
— a poem by Charles Olson
Last week my Substack friend, Cheryl Ramette shared the above poem with me. Charles Olson was a poet and essayist who “did not consider himself ‘a poet’ or ‘a writer’ by profession, but rather that nebulous and rare ‘archeologist of morning,’ reminiscent of Thoreau. He wrote on a typewriter.” Read more about Mr. Olson and his work on Poetry Foundation.
Be the “archeologist” of your mornings whatever that means to you. I’ll be looking at how what I take in first thing each day impacts the hours that follow.

Thank you for this expansion on my offering.
After so many years of cramming my being into one working schedule or another for some company or another, I finally branched out to working for myself. This was many, many years ago and I remained steadfast in the classic mindset of starting each day early and being exhausted by nightfall. I was slow to experiment with loosening up that schedule even though I had no husband or children to accommodate. Long story short, I allow myself to sleep and work as each day and night unfolds. Some would say I am still a workaholic as I rarely have any days off. But, I am lucky in that I love what I do and am perhaps happiest when working. Life has trade-offs and finding the ones that work can take a while. But you know it when things feel better.
