Spend the afternoon. You can’t take it with you. — Annie Dillard

My favorite new amaryllis added to my collection this year is ‘Belladona’ (above left) a miniature form enthusiastically blooming with coral blooms. I planted 3 bulbs in a small 8-inch terracotta pot. Above right is an old soul in my collection. It may be hard to see but if you follow the narrow stem from the grey pot to beyond the top of the frame you’ll see ‘la Paz’. When I recently measured it the stem was 3+-feet tall. Today the bud is cracking so I’m looking forward to her return. Paz means PEACE, which seems appropriate to hold in my heart given my country’s administration’s attack on Venezuela.
la Paz is enduring. The image below left is from its first year bloom in 2021. The other close up of the bloom is from last year’s display. If you’re looking to hold your holiday amaryllis from one season to the next, here’s what I do.

Spend time (like Annie Dillard advises) promoting peace in your community.

We need all the peace we can get! This is a beautiful example.
Love seeing the blooming amaryllis. Your post last year prompted me to buy bulbs last fall. Even though they got a late start, one is blooming now with another hopefully by February. They are a welcome display during these dark days of winter. Thank you for sharing the ongoing beauty of nature.
